When space is too tight for a standard welding tractor to fit, let alone do the job right, the Eco Runner 2 steps in and demonstrates that a small machine can deliver big performances in industrial applications.
Built for the Tight Spots on Your Shop Floor
If you’ve ever had to hand weld a joint because your carriage just couldn’t squeeze in, this is the machine that solves that problem. The Eco Runner 2 is engineered to operate in extremely narrow spaces, running in gaps as tight as 8″ (200 mm) wide. Its slim, compact build lets it get into confined areas that would sideline other fillet welding tractors.
A new shielding design with an undercut smooths out multi pass welding and cuts down on collision risk, while improved guide rollers, now with 1/2″ (13 mm) of adjustment range, make alignment faster and more precise. Less time adjusting setup means more arc on time.
Lighter, Simpler, Easier to Handle
Steelmax listened to feedback from operators in the field, and the newest generation of the Eco Runner 2 reflects it. Portability, ease of use and increased productivity are the results of that feedback. The biggest change is that a single torch setup is now the standard configuration, with dual torch still available as an option for anyone who needs it.
That single torch design cuts 2.2 lb (1 kg) off the unit, making it noticeably easier to carry, position, and maneuver through a shift. Instead of separate cross slides for the left and right side, the Eco Runner 2 now runs on one universal cross slide, so the torch mounts on either side and swaps easily, letting your welder run the full length of a workpiece without switching hardware.
Operators will also notice several other refinements. The control panel has been repositioned horizontally for better visibility and protection. The battery has been moved to the side of the tractor, so checking charge level is quick and easy, and the indicator itself is now more visible too. Auxiliary magnet blocks are easier to install for jobs that call for extra holding force. A new plastic case provides tougher, more organized transport and storage.
Cordless Power That Keeps Up With You
The Eco Runner 2 runs on a 4.0 Ah, 18 volt LiHD battery, so there are no cords, no generator, and the hassle of finding job site power. That means less cable clutter, safer setups, and a carriage that goes wherever the work is.
The LiHD (High Density Lithium Ion) battery pack is backed by intelligent battery management that protects against over discharge and extends service life. If the battery runs low, the tractor stops automatically so you’re never caught mid weld with an unsafe setup. The system continuously monitors low and high voltage, low and high temperature, temperature sensor failure, and internal battery failure.
Because it’s part of a cross compatible battery platform, the same battery pack also powers other Steelmax cordless equipment, including cordless welding carriages, and our D1 CDL magnetic drill. Shops running multiple Steelmax tools can standardize on one battery system instead of stocking chargers and packs for every machine.
It’s Worth a Look
For the operator on the floor, the Eco Runner 2 means less weight to carry, less setup time, and a carriage that finally fits where the job actually is. For the fabricator making the buying decision, it means one battery platform across multiple tools, fewer field failures thanks to built in battery protection, and a tractor that’s easier to train new welders on from day one.
Whether you’re running fillet welds in a tank, a beam, or anywhere else the workspace won’t cooperate, the Eco Runner 2 is built to go where bigger tractors can’t, and it will get the job done once it’s there.
